A seasonal e-commerce site for a local Christmas tree business in Christchurch. The idea is simple: customers browse available tree sizes, place an order online, and pick up from the lot on their chosen day. No phone calls, no scrambling to find a park, no showing up to find your size is sold out.
The technical constraints of a seasonal business shaped every decision. There’s a tight window — maybe six weeks from when the site goes live to when the last tree is sold. In that window, it needs to just work. Inventory is tracked in Cloudflare D1, orders come in through a lightweight form flow, and Klaviyo handles confirmation emails and collection reminders. Astro 5 keeps the frontend fast and the build simple.
Klaviyo was the right choice for email here — not because the project needs sophisticated automation, but because seasonal businesses benefit from timed sequences. Customers who order early get a reminder closer to their pickup window. Customers who don’t check out get a nudge. Simple flows, well-timed, for a business that runs once a year.
The site is code-complete. DNS cutover is pending while the business confirms their tree supply for the season. Everything is staged and ready to go live when they are.
