The app is worth little until most of the family has joined, it costs money where the alternatives are free, and real encryption means giving up the search and discovery that come from a company reading your data.

Being farmed is invisible and spread over years; leaving the group chat everyone is in is a loss felt the same afternoon. App.net, Path and Vero all launched on a promise to respect their users, and none of them held. If the childcare route cannot carry families in on a habit they already have, principle alone will not.
