NZ pharmacy is a strange market. The products are largely the same everywhere, the prices are regulated for funded medications, and yet the experience of getting your prescriptions filled varies enormously. Most pharmacy websites are relics — cluttered, slow, and designed to make you feel like you need help rather than just a product. Potions is a brand concept for a pharmacy that treats customers like adults.
The design is clean, the product information is clear, and the dispensing flow is simple. You upload your prescription, choose your pickup location or delivery, and you’re done. The brand voice is warm without being condescending. The visual identity uses bold colour and clear typography to distinguish itself from the white-and-green aesthetic that dominates the category.
The technology is the easy part — Next.js and Tailwind, a straightforward prescription management flow, nothing architecturally complex. The blocker is regulatory: dispensing prescription medications in NZ requires a licensed pharmacist as the Responsible Pharmacist and pharmacy premises approval from the Pharmacy Council. That’s not a problem you can code your way around. The brand and tech are ready and waiting for the right partnership or licensing path to open up.
